Streetscape Improvements
One of the city’s major pain points has been the lack of road infrastructure such as curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and new streets. These street improvements develop connectivity within the city and provide safe passage for cyclists and pedestrians. The Agency primarily funds city improvements to streetscapes and has also worked with private developers for these improvements located in the public right-of-way.
Early street improvements funded by the Agency include major street improvements on 42nd Street from Chinden to the Boise River, as well on 48th, 49th, 50th, and 51st Street from Alworth Street to the Boise River.
More recently, new curbs, sidewalks and landscaping on 35th Street and 36th Street, along with current streetscape improvement projects on 37th Street and streetscape and public plaza amenities on 34th Street continue to provide mobility, safety, gathering places, and cultural assets for Garden City. The agency invested in the city’s reputation as an arts haven by funding colored, stamped concrete between curbs and gutters for the Adams Street improvements between Veterans Parkway and Remington Street, and with the installation of historic lighting and public art to some streetscape efforts.
