Heron Park

Heron Park began as a small, underutilized city property by the Greenbelt at the end of 38th Street and has morphed into a thriving park in response to growth in the surrounding area. The project faced unique challenges and delays due to the winter storm of 2017 but is now a popular spot for both neighbors and people using the Greenbelt.

Amenities include a picnic kiosk, semi-circular seating that faces the river, an art bench, grassy play area, restroom, bike repair station, doggie station, and steps that lead to the water.

Workers re-graded the riverbank to allow water to flow past the park at a slower speed without disturbing riverside ecology. This river access point is downstream of the Boise Whitewater Park, creating a good spot for a recreational takeout. The park’s popularity supports the burgeoning restaurants, lodging, and craft beverage businesses in the Live/Work/Create District, which in turn brings jobs, workers, homebuyers and retirees to the city.
