Derek Hurd

Derek ventured west from Vermont to earn a Master of Architecture degree at Montana State University before migrating south to Boise in the late 90’s. Since then, Derek has been designing residential homes throughout the country with his firm Gravitas, as well as creating and building custom furniture as Studio 1212. Both businesses run out of a shared artist studio space that he and his wife Danielle developed called sPacePort in Garden City.

Derek has served as both a historic preservation and planning representative with his local neighborhood association, as a water users association board member, and is currently serving Garden City in a Mayor-appointed design consultation role. When not designing, developing, or making things, Derek and Danielle are traveling far and near with their spirited Jack Russell, Vera.

“I have been in love with Garden City since Danielle and I moved our studios to the Live-Work-Create District in the River Front East Urban Renewal District. The vibrancy and growth that is happening in this district inspires and energizes me every day.”
